The Magazine Concept
The Poor Chef Magazine was created by Charles Mattocks, who is best known for being “The Poor Chef” on NBC TV. For the past year, the show was syndicated in 10 markets around the Southeast. Charles created the show while raising
his son in Florida. He wanted to find a way to feed his growing son in a way that allowed it to be tasty, yet affordable.
The concept of The Poor Chef was born and Charles soon gained a growing audience. From his exposure on NBC, he
was able to obtain a deal for his very own spice line, a cookbook with Wiley and Sons Publications and a deal with www.intuitivellc.com the production company for many hit shows on TV.
On the verge of his own network deal Charles wanted to create a publication that could touch all lives. Not just a food magazine, The Poor Chef Magazine touches on real people and the lives they lead every day, with stories from young authors, to people who are battling diseases that seem to be role models for how to overcome adversity. The Poor Chef Magazine breaks down demographic barriers. It showcases the world and people who want to improve their lives and
make a better home for themselves and their families. The world is ever-changing and this magazine is a fresh face to
wellness, going green, as well as the economy.
KEEP IT AFFORDABLE
Charles wanted this magazine to be an affordable publication. He wanted people to be able to walk away with something that could allow them to feel great about themselves without having to worry about spending a lot of money. He knows that times are tough and providing a magazine rich with information that could improve not only their life, but a friend or a neighbor’s, didn't have to come with a huge price tag. He created it so that most of the cost of the magazine would be covered by the advertisers, allowing people of all economic backgrounds to take advantage of the publication.
